ECONOMY INDUSTRIAL CORPORATION

COMPANY INFORMATION

Economy Industrial Corporation was formed in 1976 to carry on the product lines of its predecessors, Bollinger Corporation and Pittsburgh Coal Washer Co. It is a privately held company, with nearly thirty years of successful operation under its current ownership and management.

MISSION STATEMENT

Economy Industrial's goal is to maintain international leadership in casting machine design and construction through a program of continuing research, development, and interaction with its past and current clients.

PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT

After its establishment, Economy Industrial continued developing its casting machine product line in a program of continuous development and improvement.

The Economy Mini-Caster® was introduced In the 1970's. These machines were developed to serve the needs of lower tonnage producers, with capacities from 3 to 20 tons per hour, for both ferrous and non-ferrous ingot production.

In the 1980's, Economy introduced the FerroCaster® line of casting machines specifically designed to meet the needs of ferroalloy producers. Reduced mould life had caused earlier effort to cast alloys such as ferrosilicon to be abandoned. Economy's research program, begun in the 1980's, discovered the cause of the previous early mould failure, and resulted in a process patent being issued. Subsequent successful installations confirmed the effectiveness of the process control design.

In the 1990's, Economy introduced its Alumi-Caster® line of casting machines specifically designed for aluminum ingot and de-oxidizing cone and pyramid production.

Continued research has resulted in the announcement of casting machines for nickel matte and charge chrome. Patents are pending for both the casting process and for improvements in mould design to further extend mould life.

Over the years, the automatic control system has continued to be developed, culminating in today's advanced PLC control system with HMI control panels. The control system automates a variety of machine sub-systems, and provides both numerous interlocks for efficiency and safety, to meet international standards.

 INTERNATIONAL INSTALLATIONS

Economy's casting machines are installed in many parts of the world, including the Caribbean, South America, Mexico, Canada, Europe, Saudi Arabia, South Africa and Australia, as well as the USA. It has worked in cooperation with a number of leading international Engineering and Construction firms, in both the USA and abroad.

HISTORY

Pittsburgh Coal Washer Company, built the first pig iron casting machine in the USA in 1914. It had been founded in 1894 as a supplier of equipment to the coal industry. When its activities had become predominantly involved in the steel industry, it changed its name to that of its founders, the Bollinger Brothers.

Economy Industrial Corporation's principals had been active in management of its predecessor from 1964 to 1976, when that company was taken over and renamed Economy Industrial Corp. The name was derived from the company's location, in the town of Ambridge, Pennsylvania, which had formerly been known as Economy, Pennsylvania. Economy was a communal organization of the Harmony Society, which at one time rivaled Pittsburgh as a center of agriculture, manufacturing, and river traffic. The former home of the Harmony Society is now preserved as "Old Economy", a historical district and reminder of the town's history.
