SANDUSKY INTERNATIONAL TO ENTER STAINLESS INGOT BUSINESS - PURCHASES NEW INGOT CASTING MACHINE
AMBRIDGE, PA, September 1, 1999
In a joint venture with Remelt Sources, Inc., Sandusky International has
entered the stainless ingot production business. Remelt Sources of Cleveland, Ohio, will
supply the sorted scrap material, which Sandusky will melt in their Arc/AOD facility in
Sandusky, Ohio. The 15 lb. ingots will be cast on a new 20-ton per hour stainless ingot
casting machine supplied by Economy Industrial Corp.
The casting machine features Economy's automatic control system, to automate the operation
of the water spray system, mould coating system, and mould drying burners. Interlocks
between the ingot casting machine and the ladle slide-gate system, provide for fail-safe
operation. The slide gate cannot be opened unless the casting machine is running, and the
interlocks close the slide gate in the event of a stoppage of the casting machine.
Economy's ingot casting machines have been
installed in a variety of melt shops producing certified alloys, including Precision
CastParts, Precision Rolled Products, Howmet Corp., Cannon-Muskegon Corp., and R. Lavin
& Sons. The ingot casting machines are available in models from three to thirty tons
per hour, and can produce ingots from 15 to 30 lbs.
In addition to ingot casting machines, Economy also produces nugget and pyramid casting
machines, which produce 4 to 8 oz. nuggets or pyramids for production of Aluminum de-ox
materials. Pyramid casters are in service at Galt Alloys in Canton and Imco Recycling in
Ulrichsville, Ohio. Two ferronickel cone casting machines are in service at the
Falconbridge Nickel plant in Bonao, Dominican Republic.
Economy Industrial also produces ferroalloy casting machines and pig iron casting machines, which are in service in North and South
America, Europe, and South Africa.
